What is feminism and how can I not go too far with it?
Why nowadays adults and educated women deny feminism and do not want to be involved in this concept? And the whole thing is that the term itself is not always understood intelligibly, and even opponents of feminism from anger want to give this movement demonic features and reduce it to a banal hatred of muzhiks. Yes, and some feminists themselves go too far to such an extent that "ordinary" women next to them feel uncomfortable and do not want to be a friend. It is on the latter fact that we will dwell in more detail and find out in which cases a person clearly overdoing with feminism or simply interprets him incorrectly.
Feminism is not about hate for men
Although it may seem so to someone: for example, in Spanish there is an expression Machete al machote, which literally translates as “From a machete to a tough guy,” which itself can be read as a direct threat against all men. But here you need to understand that such slogans appear in response to cases of male bullying of women, when this most "cool guy" imagined himself all-powerful and unpunished and committed a crime against the law. It is important to understand that no one hates men in feminism. But this does not mean that certain groups of men are not condemned vigorously, openly and with all the malice: rapists, discriminators and other advocates of a fierce patriarchy like the Polish politician of the European Parliament, who recently right at the meeting declared that women are more stupid than men.
Feminism is not just about sex
The “right” feminist should be a lesbian - this thesis between the lines is very often read in agitation attacks, especially of Western feminism. Denial of monogamous relations and marriage is not feminism at all, but its radical reading, which helps someone to justify their personal preferences, which, within the framework of femdvizhenie, have never been the only generally accepted norm. Under the logo of feminism, very often they try to “sell” us and polyamory, although again, the one without the other coexists perfectly. Feminism does not oblige women to sleep with everyone in the world, demonstrating their sexual emancipation, but it justifies women who choose different scenarios of relationships and enjoy sex in such quantities that they like.
Feminism does not deny beauty and health
Bodypositive is fine, but even with you on the pages of leading glossy magazines, we see how “hippo” joined the women with forms under its aegis. Feminism does not convince anyone that you need to eat everything, and treat sport as the lot of the devil, escort women and Victoria’s Secret models, which spoil our self-esteem for all of us. Feminism only advises women to find harmony with their own body, to shape it to their needs (and after all, a healthy body will be useful for everyone!), And not for the picture and not for the requirements of her boyfriend-husband, “I want you to lose weight / make your chest / bleached teeth”.
Feminism is all for all, not personal tragedy
Returning to the previous point, it is worth noting that feminism has an Achilles heel, which is that people come to this movement not only in the name, but also in spite of it. For example, as a result of unsuccessful experiences in relationships, they seek feminism as a shelter, hoping to find healing for their own tragedy. In their personal space, they hate almost all men and in principle do not recognize that the latter may also want equal rights for their mothers, sisters, wives and daughters and certainly sincerely wish them to live in a safe society, where the rape is not justified by the words "I put the short skirt on - it is my fault." Such “offended” feminists may not do anything wrong, but if they do not have time to work out their personal drama alone or with a psychologist, then they will hardly be able to interpret the essence of feminism itself adequately and humanely.
Feminism is about pluralism of views.
Moreover, today feminism is precisely based on intersectionalism, namely, on the recognition that each woman has her own experience and cannot be compared to some universal model of a woman in an attempt to help everyone at once. This theory grew out of the African American movement, who claimed that “ordinary” feminism aims to improve the lives of white educated middle-class women, leaving everyone else behind. In other words, as statistics show, any woman, regardless of social class, can experience domestic violence on the part of a partner, while discrimination in the labor market actually hurts women of the working class, “color” and migrants.
