What is an asynchronous generator

Asynchronous generators are alternative sources of electrical energy. The drive for rotating the rotor of an asynchronous generator is an internal combustion engine, which usually runs on gasoline, or a diesel engine that runs on diesel.

Generator device

This generator consists of two parts, one of which is fixed and is called the stator and is the base. The moving part is called the rotor, it rotates inside the stator.
The stator and rotor are made of special electrical steel, which very well conducts the magnetic fluxes formed during their operation. Asynchronous generators can be either three-phase or single-phase. It depends on the number and type of connection of the windings in the stator and the rotor.
The conductive part of the rotors perform aluminum and electrical steel. At the beginning of the rotation of the generator by an internal combustion engine,located on the same platform together with a generator, a traveling magnetic field is formed, which is subsequently converted into electric current.

Principle of operation

The frequency and power of the resulting electric current directly depends on the speed of rotation of the generator. The higher the speed of rotation of the generator, the greater the power and voltage, if the speed drops, then the characteristics of the electric current decrease. Therefore, on many generators, the automatic regulation of these parameters is established so that they do not affect the quality of the output energy.
The disadvantages of asynchronous generators can be attributed to the fact that they themselves are consumers of reactive power, and as a result of overload during start-up, considerable currents will flow in the stator winding, which can lead to winding failure. To eliminate this design defect, capacitors are used.


Asynchronous generators are recommended to use, if high requirements are not applied to the voltage parameters, the generator operates in a bad environment (for example, excessive dustiness), it is not possible to properly maintain the generator during operation, as well as if there is a possibility of overloads and emergency operation.


Despite the fact that the generator easily gives out 380 V power, do not use it without extreme need. Safe for the generator voltage - 220 volts.

Do not drive the generator at idle.
