What are the types of joints

The joint is one of the most advanced types of bone joints. The joints of the bones bind the bones of the skeleton together and hold them next to each other, providing the bones with a certain degree of mobility. Compounds of bones can be different in shape and have the following physical properties: elasticity, mobility, strength. The properties of bone joints determine their function.
To date, there are three types of bone joints, namely continuous connections, discontinuous connections, and symphysis or half-joints. In continuous joints between the bone structures there is a layer in the form of cartilage. In such joints, the gap between the bones is missing.
Disconnected joints or joints are distinguished by the presence of a gap between the bones and a special membrane that covers the inside of the joint capsule. Symphysis or half-joint are the transitional form from continuous to discontinuous connections.This type of bone joints is characterized by the presence of a small gap in the cartilage between the bones.
In the joint significant mobility is possible, which allows you to perform a variety of movements. Each joint has surfaces that are covered with cartilage, an articular gap and a capsule. Sometimes there are additional education in the form of articular discs.
Joints may differ from each other in the number of articular surfaces, the number of connected bones. Depending on how many surfaces of the joint, simple joints are distinguished, which are formed only by two joint surfaces, and complex joints, which can be formed by three or more joint surfaces.
Also distinguish complex and combined types of joints. In the complex joint between the connecting surfaces there is an articular disk, which divides the lumen of the joint into two floors. A combined joint usually consists of two anatomically isolated joints that work together, for example, the left and right temporomandibular joints.
There are also joints depending on the shape of the articular surfaces: ellipsoidal, spherical and cylindrical. The above forms of joints have different options.For example, a type of spherical joint will be flat and bowl-shaped joints, and a cylindrical joint will be a block-like joint.
Depending on the shape of the articular surfaces, each joint may have a certain number of axes around which movement can occur in a particular joint. Therefore, the joints can be divided according to the anatomical and physiological classification into uniaxial (with one axis of motion), biaxial, triaxial, and multiaxial.
