Knife armor paracord
When making knives for the handle, I usually use textolite or wood, but sometimes I resort to weaving. When people think about the handle braid, they usually represent a single-color cord, wound in a circle. Boring! So I decided to come up with a beautiful technique using two-color cords. This is the second knife, the handle of which I decorated in this way. In the first case, I wove a black and fluorescent cord. I sat in front of the TV, holding the knife in one hand, and in the second I had black and luminescent cords. I started experimenting, and here's what I got. I hope you enjoy it.
You will need:
- paracord (2 colors),
- multitool (you can use simple pliers, and something sharp to cut the cord).
Cut and gut
Cut off the required length of the paracord of each color, I do it with a margin. Remember, it's easier to cut off excess than to build up, if not to be missed. Forward, and do not forget to remove the internal wires. To do this, make sure that they are not soldered to the outer shell, and pull them out.
Prepare for weaving
Wrap the cutting edge of the blade with tape to avoid cutting. Pass the cords into the hole where you start weaving, a couple of centimeters. Now you need to think. On whatever side you let the cords go, they will leave a ledge on it, so I always leave it on the inside of the handle. The inner part is the place of the handle, where your fingers rest against it, not the palm of your hand.If you do this, the knife will be more comfortable to lie in your hand. In my opinion, this is the logic. So, after you thread the ends of the cord into the top hole, glue their ends to the metal handle. Then they will lie more evenly and will not interfere during the weaving. Only the fingers need not be glued together.
Do you know how the first knot is made when you tie up your shoes? We will use this knot. Transfer the cords to the side where the ends are glued. Black should go under the orange, then throw it across the orange (just look at the photo and everything will become clear). After that, turn the knife to the other side and do the same actions now on it. The cord should be well tightened. Then turn the knife over again and repeat it.
While weaving, I like to watch an interesting show. But do not forget to pay attention to what you are doing.
After weaving closer to the bottom hole, one cord will be closer to him, the other - a little to the side. In my case, black was closer. Slide the middle hole into the hole, and continue to bow the far one around the handle and pass it over the other side. Now tie the knot, and with the remnants of the cords can do what you want. I usually cling to a cool bead and then knit the knot again. But I didn't have anything at hand, so I just cut the edges a couple of centimeters below the knot.
Now you need to completely wrap the tape blade and other parts, which should not be resin. You can, of course, remove it from steel, but why waste time on it. Mix a small amount of glass fiber resin. I used 30 ml, but half would be enough for me. It was just that there was not a smaller measuring cup at hand. Take an inexpensive brush and apply resin with gentle movements over the entire lacing. Let it soak if you need to apply the resin again. Then hold the blade in a vice to let the handle dry. After a few minutes, take out the knife and turn it over, then the resin will not harden down on the side of the handle that is pointing down.
