Calvin Klein Collection - Fashion's Night Out
Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli Exit Calvin Klein
Is it me or there is a terrible epidemic claiming thousands of victims in the fashion industry since earlier last year? And by saying that I am not talking aboutusfashion victims, but rather about those terrific creative directors that are breaking the hearts of thousands of fashion enthusiasts by leaving our beloved fashion houses. News thatFrancisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli are exiting Calvin Kleinhas been hitting the headlines for a while now, leaving many wondering what’s next for the iconic label. Apparently, however, Calvin Klein plans to announce a new creative director in “due course” and it will be, as said, just one.
While Costa and Zucchelli worked as Calvin Klein women’s and men’s creative directors respectively, the fashion house is planning to unify its departments under just one single creative mind, which will help unify its aesthetics as well.
“This creative strategy marks the beginning of another significant chapter in Calvin Klein’s brand legacy since Mr. Klein’s retirement. I would like to thank Francisco and Italo for their unwavering commitment to the Calvin Klein brand and their accomplishments over the past decade. They have both contributed immensely to making Calvin Klein a global leader in the fashion industry, and they have done so with dedication, focus, and creativity. A new brand direction will ultimately follow one creative vision across all categories of the business. An announcement will be made in due course;” declared Steve Shiffman, Calvin Klein’s Inc. CEO.
Such a strategy is just a natural evolution of a new formula the label has been undertaking since 2013, when the reacquisition of both its jeans and underwear businesses officially began. News that there will be no runway shows for the label in June and September, though they will be held for press and sales, is already saddening many people too.
With so many talented fashion designers left without a fashion house, rumors have, of course, started circulating regarding the new possible creative director of Calvin Klein. Many hope it will be Raf Simons to take the lead of the label, while others are looking up to Hedi Slimane (who left Saint Laurent and got replaced by Anthony Vaccarello). In both cases, Calvin Klein’s headquarters have declined to further reveal any future plan regarding who is actually going to take the helm of the creative direction of the fashion house. As for both Costa and Zucchelli, we don’t know what the future holds for them either. Their decade-plus tenures at Calvin Klein, however, will definitely guarantee them a new, thrilling position at a refined fashion house.
We guess we just have to stay tuned, at this point!
