Couple Who Spent 17 Years Trying to Have a Baby Welcome Son Weeks Early
Update (October 21, 2015): Just a few weeks after their pregnancy announcement video went viral, Arkell Graves revealed yesterday on Facebook that his wife, Dana, was in critical care and had to deliver their child at 24 weeks and one day. "Her body has endured all it can take. We are believing in God. It's always been in His Hands, so we hold on to Him. Please keep us in your prayers today and always," he wrote. The good news: The couple's longtime dream of having a child was realized when their son Kaleb Arkell Graves was born. While we wait to hear an update on how mom and baby are doing, we'll be keeping Arkell, Dana and Kaleb in our thoughts.
Previously (October 1, 2015):Arkell Graves and his wife Dana Griffin-Graves, from Virginia, have been trying for a child for over a decade. They hoped for a little one soon after they have got married 17 years ago.
"We had everything planned," Dana told . Sadly, since the couple started trying, she gave birth to one stillborn and had four miscarriages. After several heart-breaking struggles, they were forced to accept that they may never become parents.
"It just didn't work out, so we kind of gave up," said Dana. It wasn't until she started exercising more with her friends—but no losing weight—that she felt something could be happening.
Sure enough, when she went to the doctor, she discovered their dreams of a family were about to come true.
